Please find below definitions of the most popular aggregates we provide:

Sand

Sand is a naturally occurring material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles. It is used as a mix with cement, making mortar for bricklaying, for pointing of paving, and in wall building. It is also used in seed composts, for propagating benches, as a base for block paving, in pipe bedding and as fill for drains or ducts.

Ballast

Ballast is a mixture of sand and gravel used to make concrete. It can be mixed with concrete for foundations and footings. We provide ballast – as dug, 10mm pea shingle, 20mm pea shingle and 40mm pea shingle.

Topsoil

Topsoil is the upper, outermost layer of soil. We can provide 10mm screened topsoil, free from any large rocks or large clods of earth. It is most commonly used for landscaping purposes.

MOT Type 1

We provide MOT Type 1 limestone – which is literally crushed limestone. It is used as a high-quality fill or sub-base material for the construction of car parks, driveways and highways. We also provide MOT Type 1 crushed concrete – which is literally concrete that has been crushed. It contains more dust than MOT Type 1 limestone and is generally used in the construction of car parks, driveways and highways. Both meet the requirement of the Department of Transport’s specification for highways work.

Other aggregates

We also provide scalpings (for use in access paths, car parks, driveways), hardcore (for building drives, roads and pathways), road planning (generally used as a surface to improve road stability), barks, mulches, wood chips and more.
