Lynch Operator Family Plant Show is a great success…

The Family Plant Show and Operator’s Open day event on Sunday 1st Sept, organised and orchestrated by Lynch Plant Hire, turned out to be a hugely successful day. The event, the first of its kind, took place just off junction 24 of the M5 at Bridgwater in Somerset and was attended by over 3,000 people, raising over £2,000 for the 'The Lighthouse Club' - a construction industry charity which gives much needed financial support to families of construction professionals affected by illness, injury or death.

The day attracted many of the leading plant manufacturers including JCB, Volvo, Case, WackerNeuson, Atlas Copco, Merlo, Thwaites and Bobcat who were all represented by an array of heavy plant machines and equipment, along with many offer suppliers of equipment and industry related goods. The show which was primarily aimed at operators meant there were plenty of opportunities for them to demonstrate their working skills on the machines with a number of 'challenge' events going on throughout the day such as the "hook a duck" competition. Here operators using a Takeuchi TB228 mini excavator were challenged to pick up four ducks using a specially adapted hook on the quick hitch and place the various sized ducks on the top of road cones. In another test, operators were challenged to stack ten tyres on top of each other against the clock, using a rotating selector grab equipped WackerNeuson 9503-2 rubber duck.

Operator Challenges

Apart from the challenges and demonstrations there was also a 'Classic Plant Parade', a plant simulator, trade stands from various industry associations all offering plenty of advice on issues such as employment and training & safety.

Children were also kept fully entertained with a 'kids fun zone' which included excavator rides and radio controlled models, which simulated a road development with over 30 remote controlled machines ranging from tower cranes, excavators and dump trucks, this was bought together by model enthusiasts coming from all corners of the UK to bring this together.

Family Fun

Robert Lynch, Operations Director, commented "the event was great fun and it was brilliant to see the sheer number of operators attending with their families, all of whom really entered into the spirit of the occasion. It is important for Lynch Plant hire to have more face to face interaction with the industries operators, to have more time for one on ones and understand any issues they may have, it is also important that these guys get to see the real Lynch Plant hire".

The event also gave operators the chance to see the latest machines up close and personal as well as the chance to speak directly to the sales reps, providing both parties with good feedback.

Event organiser Mark Kennedy went on to add ‘’The South West is a key area for us at Lynch and with our Bridgwater depot we have made a considerable investment in the area. We are absolutely delighted with the overall response to the event from both operators and manufacturers alike and we would like to express our great thanks to all who attended the event and in particular all the manufacturers and suppliers who supported it and help make it a day to remember.
