Project overview

Customer: Morrison Construction
Client: English City Funding
Site: Milbay Docks
Value: £5.8 million

Project Details

Morrison Construction were contracted to transform derelict dockland to accommodate a new shopping complex and hotel development. The civil engineering project also involved repairing the marina harbour walls and creating a new sea defence area, land remediation, dredging the tidal basin and constructing new rock revetments and wave deflector devices.

The solution

Lynch project manager, Tony Wootton, organised live hire reporting, fortnightly meetings and was on 24-hour call for the duration of the project.

Operators and service staff were also locally recruited and trained to Lynch standards.

We provided specialist machinery, including a Long Reach 35T Excavator and a brand new 36T Volvo heavy excavator, that was delivered directly from the Volvo factory.

Biodegradable oil was used in all of the excavators to help protect the local environment and wildlife.

The results

We provided:

  • A designated project manager, who was on 24-hour call. This enabled all site machine requirements and service issues to be dealt with immediately
  • Fully trained, competent operators and standby operators, meaning that the site could operate 24/7 with no down time
  • New machines to the correct specification. This helped reduce any breakdowns/downtime and provided increased heath and safety benefits
  • Biodegradable oil and new machines, which enabled environmental standards to be met
