The Dawlish sea wall is officially open!
Over the past four years, we have collaborated with our customers BAM and Network Rail as the sole plant supplier on their project to upgrade the sea wall in Dawlish. This was an interesting challenge for us: from working against the tide with mobile fitters on call 24/7, to delivering 70t machinery by boat to tight deadlines!
The project was unique, as we worked adjacent to an SSSI and required consent from the MMO (Marine Maritime Organisation) before any works commencing. We worked to meet special conditions, including pre-determined transiting reach across the beach for plant to avoid the Sabellaria (environmentally protected reef).
The railway line running through Dawlish is a vital link for passengers and freight, connecting the South West to the rest of the country. Our work will safeguard this important line for the next 100 years to come.
We certainly won’t forget this project any time soon. Thank you to BAM for the opportunity to work on this great project, making a real difference to the lives of local people - it’s great to see the sea wall officially opened!
