Works overview

Greenwich Pumping Station:

This site is located within the ground of a fully functional Grade II listed Pumping Station. The sites main function is to drive the Greenwich Connection Tunnel which will help to tackle the problem of the overflow of sewage into Deptford Creek and River Ravensbourne.

Detail:

Milestones to be reached this year: The erection of the acoustic enclosure which will allow 24 construction, ensuring that the shaft excavation is completed quickly and on time.

Deptford Church Street:

Although not located directly on the river, a shaft will be dug next to Grade I listed St Pauls Church, to connect to the Greenwich Connection Tunnel. The sewage will be sent into the Greenwich Connection before being taken to the main super sewer.

Detail:

Milestones to be reached this year: The excavation of the shaft to a depth of 50 metres.

Deptford Church Street

Chambers Wharf

Chambers Wharf:

Chambers Wharf in Bermondsey is one of the main drive sites for the tunnelling and will launch and receive tunnel boring machines, Selina, Ursula, and Annie. The shaft will be more than 60m deep, with new land being created in the river Thames to allow space to work.

Detail:

Milestones to be reached this year: Diaphragm wall works are now complete allowing the excavation of the tunnel shaft to begin (currently working 24hrs 5 days a week with 2 x 25t zero tailswing excavators on shaft excavations).

Summary:

  • Early engagement with all of the above sites has ensured that Lynch have played a part in the Thames Tideway project staying on track to deliver in 2024.
  • The use of innovative technologies, telematics reports, and barge loading to transport materials have all contributed to keeping congestion, disruption, and pollution to a minimum, whilst also saving the client time and money.
